A definitive decimal currency TwentyFive cent Nickel plated Steel coin which in 1996 replaced the Cupro Nickel coin and in 2005 was replaced by smaller copper plated Steel coin in reflecting the diminishing value of the coin.

Obverse : The Armorial Ensign of Sri Lanka
Reverse : The large numeral 25 with value TWENTY FIVE CENTS in Sinhala, Tamil and English below and year of issue at the bottom within a circle of the traditional Sinhala Liyavela art with Sri Lanka in Sinhala on top.

The 1996-2004 TwentyFive Cent Nickel Plated Steel coin is in appearance and weight identical to the older Cupro-Nickel coin it replaced, except being 15% thicker and attracted by magnets.
