As the Central Bank of Ceylon started in 1950, they were probably minted since 1975. Each year depending on the number of eligible 25 years of service recipients sovereigns are minted at a local Jeweller using the same dies. After a commemorative gold sovereign was minted in 1998 for 50th anniversary of Independence, CBSL started giving those instead. However after recipients demanded a sovereign identified with CBSL where they have served for 25 years, and the sovereigns were minted again with the same dies and are still awarded.

The Sovereign was scanned at 600 dpi and displayed at 300 dpi The Sovereign was obtained in 2014 November from a dealer in Colombo Fort.
