`Lakshmi' Plaque - Obverse Mold

An obverse mold of a `Lakshmi' plaque coin of normal size with a silhouette negative image of goddess Lakshmi surface.

Obverse Mold : goddess Lakshmi standing with rectangular frame all incuse.
Back side: two Horizontal bands to hold string which ties the two sides of mold. Cross marks which may have identified image carved on other side and which end was up, to aid orintation and pairing of molds.

A few coin molds (B.1, L.1 to L.5) are cataloged under Coin Moulds in 1999 by Osmund Bopearachchi and Rajah Wickramasinhe in the book Ruhuna. An Ancient Civilization Re-visited . The mold above was obtained directly via the same collector who provided most of the items for that book.

The mold was scanned at 400dpi and displayed at 300dpi. It was obtained in 2003 May directly from farmer who found it in Ruhuna via Mr A. Ratnayaka a collector in Katharagama, Lanka.
