2013 - Kurunegala - Ten Rupee

As one of a new series of Ten Rupee coins representing the 25 Districts of Sri Lanka, the coin for Kurunegala was issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on 2014 November 17. The obverse design depicts Rock + Street as Environmental and Social characteristics of Kurunegala District.

Obverse : Within plain circle, artists impression of Athagala (Elephant Rock) and prominent landmarks of Kurunegala city. කුරුණෑගල in Sinhala on top, குருணாகல் in Thamil on left, and Kurunegala on right. with 2013 below along the periphery of the coin.
Reverse : The large numeral denomination 10 with රුපියල් දහයයි in Sinhala, and பத்து ரூபாய் in Thamil and TEN RUPEES below and year of issue at the bottom flanked by ears of paddy on either side.. The country name ශ්‍රී ලංකා in Sinhala, centered on top, இலங்கை in Thamil on left and SRI LANKA on Right. All within circle of a geometric design along periphery with partly raised rim.

The Commemorative card issued has line drawing and a brief description including economic activities in district.

Probably from an old photograph of Kurunegala Town, as it has more coconut palms and most Buildings including the Buddha Statue on top of the rock are missing in drawing on coin.

The Coin obtained from CBSL was scanned at 600 dpi is displayed at 300 dpi.
