At the request of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, a commemorative Nickel plated steel Rs10 circulation was issued by Central Bank of Sri Lanka with a Rs 1000/- sterling silver crown size frosted Proof NCLT; coin, to mark the 2600 SamBuddhatva Jayanti year.
Obverse : At center A 24 prong DharmaChakra (wheel of doctrine) with the anniversary 2600 in central circle, The words SAMBUDDHATVA JAYANTI appear within upper part annulus in Sinhala at apex and Tamil and English to left and right. The words YUNJATHA BUDDHASAASANE within lower part annulus in Sinhala at center and in English and Tamil to left and right.
Reverse : The large numeral 10 at the centre with TEN RUPEES in Sinhala, Tamil and English below. Mint Year 2011 below text, flanked by ears of paddy on either side. SRI LANKA in Sinhala appear at the apex and Tamil and English to left and right side. A geometric design around the periphery.
The Pali phrase Yunjatha BuddhaSaasane means a "A Society that acts Righteously on Buddhist Philosophy".
The Rs 10 coin was schedule to be issued to circulation in 2011 June, but was finally issued by CBSL on 2011 July 18th, after allowing time for the Buddha Sasana Ministry which proposed the coin to issue it first. This did not happen. The ministry had been annoyed that the Rs1000/- was not issued at their ceremony in Anuradhapura.
