50th Anniversary

Two commemorative coins were issued on 2008 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Employees Provident Fund. This two rupee Nickel plated Steel Brilliant coin was issued on 2008 November xx into circulation. A thousand rupee Nickel plated Steel coin was issued on 2008 November 14th.

Obverse : The security and protection offered by the EPF for all its members, symbolized by two upholding palms, below images of an office employee, a tea plucker and a garment factory employee. They depict three industrial sectors in the economy viz Agriculture, Industry and Services. Numeral 50 just above to right, symbolizing the Golden Jubilee of the EPF. Around between two circles, the legend සෙවක අර්ථසාධක අරමුදල in Sinhala on top, ஊழியர் சேம நிதியம் in Thamil on left, and EMPLOYEES PROVIDENT FUND on right, with 1958-2008 centered below. A petal design along the periphery within raised rim..

Reverse : A traditional Sinhala design using the Pineapple motif. Value as big 2 in large numeral, with the currency රුපියල් in Sinhala, ரூபாய் in Thamil, and RUPEES in 3 lines below. The year of issue 2008 at the bottom center, the name ශ්‍රී ලංකා in Sinhala on top, இலங்கை in Thamil on left, SRI LANKA on right, along periphery outside a plain circle. Four 8-petal symbols separate the words. A link design around the periphery with raised rim.

The Nickel plated steel coin has been minted to the existing standard Rs. 2/- in circulation.

The artwork was done by Central Bank artist Mr Kelum Gunasekera.

The coin scanned at 600 dpi and the images are displayed at 254 dpi
