Obverse : Crowned bust of George VI to left in relief in the center of the legend GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA, along periphery.

Reverse : A Talipot palm in the center dividing the numerals 5 0 . Left Tamil 50 Satam; Right Sinhala sather panarhar. Above CEYLON Below CENTS and year.

Initials of designer P M have been omitted by the Calcutta die sinkers.

The 1943 proof in Nickel Brass of this old design was not issued for currency. It has Pridmore Type 1 (no vertical lines between dots) Security edge.
Remick catalog says 6 copies known of this Fifty cents proof only issue.
The Dick Ford collection (in Taisei-Baldwin-Gillio Auctions #19 Ceylon 1995 February 23. Singapore lot#237) sold for hammer price of US$650/-.(+10% buyers premium).
